My First Derby

by ShagOnSports

I remember going to my first Derby in 1987… For several weeks leading up to the Derby several of my friends and I had discussed attending that year… We finally decided to go a couple of weeks before the event and could not wait to get to the rowdy infield… The plan was we were going to stay with a friend of mine who was going to Law School at U of L and also meet several other friends who were also coming in from out of town… We loaded up on Friday night and off we went to the Ville…

I had not spent allot of time in Louisville so I really did not know my way around and was relying on the directions a friend of mine provided to his house (it is ironic that I now live in Louisville and often travel by this house)…

We made it up I64 hit Louisville to I65 and then found our exit onto Eastern Parkway… I had studied the directions for a couple of days (this was 1987 so there was no Google Maps) so I knew the names of the streets and had the directions down pretty well… If I got lost I could always call the number I had written on the directions so I was not too concerned about any miss-steps… We crossed over the street we were looking for and then made our turn on the next left which I though meant we had gone to far… At that point I needed to reference the directions so the five of us in my two door Cutlass Supreme started looking for them … There was a car behind us so I had to make a left to get out of the way…

At this point I realized we had lost the directions… We reached a point on the street where I could pull over and park and continued to search in vain… Unbelievable!!! We cannot find the directions which means we have no phone number (no one has cell phones in 1987)… It is 10:30 at night and I am thinking man we are screwed… As the debate continued in the car over who lost the directions went on for a couple of minutes I gazed up at a house to my left that was setting up elevated about twenty feet higher then the road… It was at that point I realized that there standing on the front porch wondering what the hell we were doing still in the car and waving his arms was our friend Biddy… We had stumbled to a stop right in front of his house… We laughed for an hour!!!

We did not get much rest that night and our plan was for the six of us to meet another group of our friends in turn three in the infield the next day… If you have ever been to the infield for Derby then you know how next to impossible it would be just to randomly find someone in that space (remember no cell phones in 1987)…

The next morning we went to the Liquor store, bought some bags of ice and two half gallons of vodka… We then went to the grocery store for some bread, sandwich meat, orange juice and large zip lock bags to pour the vodka into so we could seal up the bags and then strategically place them in the bottom of the cooler under a layer of ice and food… The plan was for two people to carry the cooler in after I had carried the two half gallons of orange juice ahead of them to avoid suspicion that we had any liquor…

We drove to the area of Churchill downs and parked a pretty good ways away from the track so we had quite a walk to the infield… On the way we alternated carrying the large cooler and had to stop on occasion as my friend Billy blew his referee whistle and in tandem we would scream out and made the referee signal for a pushing foul and said, “No, No, No, No!!! 52, 52, you’re pushing, we are going the other way!!!” How or why we started doing this I have no idea but it continued the entire weekend and everyone seemed to find this very amusing…

When we got to the gate we enacted our plan… My buddies went through one gate with the cooler and I moved down to another gate with my OJ… On our way in to the infield two people in front of me had there umbrellas confiscated and when they asked why they could not bring them in they were told they could be used as weapons and I thought how ridiculous is that… The security people really checked me well, made sure the OJ had never been opened and then away I went… As I made my way through the crowd there was my two buddies with the cooler and I thought they had made it through also but then I could see the look in their eyes… Dammit!!! Security took all the food out of the cooler and then dumped the ice and the bags of Vodka into the dumpster… So much for that plan!!!

We now made our way inside the tunnel to the infield with the cooler in tow now full of OJ and food… When we got inside the infield was a muddy mess and my buddy Bid D had worn his brand spanking new white tennis shoes… Bid D did not want to get them muddy so at that point someone had to put him on their back and carry him through the muddy mess… We needed a spot to have a home base so we wondered into an area between turn three and four, put down the cooler and Big D and marked our spot using the flag flying on top of the grandstand to the south, a flag on top of a food booth to the to the east and then another flag to our west… We decided we would split up into two groups and come back the spot once we found the other group of people we were looking for…

My group included Bid D so the first move is I have to pack Bid D on my back through the mud so he does not get his brand new white tennis shoes dirty until we reach the concrete… As we are walking around laughing about how we are going to find our other friends we decide that it would be a good idea every minute or two just to scream out one of the guys nicknames, Zorro! thinking he may by chance here us yelling…

We got over by the betting windows and we wanted to get some bets down on the Derby (we did not care about any of the other races) so we sent one guy to place the bets while we looked around for our friends… As we were waiting for Chill Will to place the bets I was looking over at two middle-aged women who had put a blanket down on the grass and were sitting by a row of bushes… Their husbands were standing behind them and I watched as two young drunk shirtless guys walked up behind the bushes and started pissing… It was at that point I realized the two middle-aged men were holding umbrellas and proceeded to beat the living shit out of the two guys who were pissing… I now understood the call of umbrellas as weapons…

After the bets were down we continued around turns three and four… When Bid D could he would walk on the ground but most of the time I was packing him around on my back to keep his damn white shoes from getting muddy… During the walk around we saw many shirtless people, including girls, a couple of more fights and ran into a guy we knew who had a whole wagon full of ice cold beer… He had gotten the beer with the old Trojan horse scheme of constructing a cooler inside of the wagon and then closing it all in so it just looked like a wagon… Once inside he busted it open and had let the soldiers out… During one of the fight scenes the Police actually arrested both guys and one of the guys dropped his tennis shoes and someone picked them up and they auctioned them off… I tried to buy them for Bid D but was outbid…

By this time I am thinking it is going to be a miracle to find the people we were looking for let alone the other group of people we had came with to the infield with… We were still yelling “Zorro” at the top of our lungs on occasion but this method was not working… We decided to venture on so I got Bid D on my back and off we go… We take about two steps and Zorro is standing right in front of us… Our other groups of friends had already found them so there we were united in the infield… It would be and EXcellent day from there…

We drank, watched fights, laughed at people, hollered at girls and when the Derby race went by we saw about three seconds of the horses through the chain-link fence… By the Derby Race the light rain we had experienced all day was gone the sun was shining and believe it or not Big D’s shoes were still not muddy…

The infield pretty much starts to clear out once the Derby Race had been completed even though there are two more races… We stayed for one more race and the decided it was time to head out of the infield for our next adventure… As we got our stuff and were ready to head out there was one person that was not accounted for… Where was Bid D??? By this time the main walkway through the infield was just a sloppy and muddy mess so I knew I would be packing him out but he was not where to be found… Finally we saw him… Bid D who had the winning ticket on the race that day (it paid a hefty sum) so he was a happy man, marching and high stepping like a German soldier right through the middle of the mud!!! So much for the damn tennis shoes…

As we made our way to the tunnel to exit the infield there was one last thing we were missing, our cooler… No one gave me a chance to find it since we had put it down and never gone back to the spot… I disappeared into the mass of people still in between turns three and four got my bearings on the flags I had marked our spot with identified the cooler, told the guy who was sitting on it that it was mine, opened it up and gave the contents away (I could have probably sold the food and orange juice)… I then made my way out of the crowd with the cooler in tow… When my friends saw me emerge from the crowd they begin cheering as if I had found the Holy Grail, an empty cooler… It was quite an afternoon…

I made it to every Derby after that until the last one I attended in 2001… I will save that story for next year…

MLB Baseball

At the end of the first month the Yankees and Red Sox are tied for first (My pick was the Yankees) in the AL East… The Sox are up on the Tigers (Tom C is happy about that and I am hoping for a Tigers vs Cardinals Series so the Redbirds can get revenge for 1968) and I think the Tigers have the pitching in place to sustain this start (I predicted the Indians and they are in Third… Oakland and Texas are tied for first with the Angels only a half game out (My prediction was Oakland)… Oakland and Texas are both 12 and 12…

The Mets may just run off with the NL East (I picked the Braves)… St Louis, Cincy and Houston are all at the top of the Central (You know my pick) and it looks like the early line is the Wildcard will come from this division… The Rockies are on top of the West but I still like the Dodgers whether Gagne comes back or not…

I read today that Curt Schilling would have tied Pedro Martinez and Babe Ruth for most wins by a Red Sox Pitcher in the month of April… Many people forget how solid a pitcher Ruth was before becoming the Sultan of Swat… The NY Times had a great article on Ruth today… Ruth hit homers number 712, 713 and 714 in one of his final games and final hurrahs of his career…

Jason Giambi had a nice April after finishing strong last year… His .557 On Base Percentage leads the AL as does his .828 slugging percentage, as does his 1.384 OPS… He is hitting .345 and has 25 walks so far…

Puljos has a .495 On Base Percentage to lead the NL as does his .925 slugging percentage and his 1.42 OPS… Puljos has 24 walks and has only struck out seven times… Puljos also lead the league in Home Runs and RBI’s… By the way at this stage of his career has there been a better hitter??? The numbers say no… Barring injury he could be the greatest of all time…

Greg Maddux is having a nice year for the Cubs… He is second in ERA, second in WHIP, first in wins and in the top five in batting average against… If the Cubs fold by All Star break he could be some serious trade bait if he will accept a trade (Yankees will be asking for him you can bet)…

Fantasy Update

The MudCats have moved up to sixth place… This week I get Griffey, Small, Renteria and Rolen back from injuries… AJ Burnett looks to be out a month or so which is not good for the pitching categories… Someone offered me four players for Puljos this week including A Rod as one of the four and I promptly rejected… I would like to have another closer and I may bait the hook a little this week to see what I can get…

At the top of my watch list is Edward Encarcian for Cincy, Luis Castillo, Craig Counsell, Mike Lowell, Shea Hillenbrand, Brandon Phillips, Craig Monroe, Rich Aurilia, Ben Broussard, Corey Patterson and Jason Smith… Five of these are multi position players, which are great to have in Fantasy Baseball…

ShagOnSports Random Thoughts

- This week there were a couple baseball happenings that I appreciated… One involved Jose Mesa throwing at Omar Vizquel during a game not once but twice… This stems from Vizquel blaming Mesa for their World Series loss in 1997 while with the Indians… Baseball is about the inside pitch… I remember as a Little Leaguer when a friend of mine had hit a home run off of me I nailed him right in the thigh the next time up… That is baseball…

- The other involved Albert Puljos and Pirates pitcher… The pitcher had shown Puljos up when he struck him out in his previous at bat… The next at bat Albert ripped a home run and flipped the bat about half way to the mound in retaliation…

- My friend Johnny J called me from Harry Carry’s place in the middle of the day on Friday to solve a mystery for him… They were watching the Cubs play on TV and before the game they had brought an older woman and man onto the field and presented them with a New York Yankees Babe Ruth number three jersey and a bat… They could not here the TV so they could not understand what was going on with Babe Ruth and the Yankees at a Cubs vs Brewers game… It took me a minute but I realized that they were celebrating Ruth’s famous called shot from the 1932 World Series at Wrigley Field… This was of course a celebrated legend until a few years ago a man cleaning out his attic in Chicago found a home movie his father had made of the event that was shown for the first time on ESPN back in 1999… I pulled that one out of nowhere…

- I missed the golf on Sunday but it must have been an exciting finish... Chris Couch chippped in to win his first tournament... Forty nine year old Fred Funk was on the practice tee gettting ready just in case there was a playoff... Proves that if you hit it straight and can putt you can still cash a big check on tour...

- I am not a Pro Football guy but I think that Matt Leinert is better then the eleventh pick in the draft… I think that the Titans, the Jets and the Raiders all should have took him…

- I am still not watching but the NBA Playoff seems to have had some exciting games… Most surprising score was yesterdays 124 to 104 whipping of the Pistons by the Bucks… Spurs and Heat look to be in a pinch but both are at home for the final game of the series… When they reach the Semis I will tune in…

- A good derby quote I heard this week was, “Lord let me breakeven!!!” “I sure need the money… “

- The three horses I like today to be in the money are AP Warrior, Stepponwolfer and Point Determined… This field is wide open to me… I think the speed that is in the race will not allow Brother Derek or Lawyer Ron to win… Both of the horses were not challenged down the stretch of their last races and horses like people have a tendency to tense up when someone is running with them… I will publish my final picks on Friday after consulting with my experts…

- My wife has not picked her horse yet… She has picked the last three winners…

- Reality Spin called this week and told me that after last years Derby they had hauled 11,000 tons of trash out of Churchill Downs… I asked him if they also listed how much white trash they had removed…

Baseball is a Radio Game

By ShagOnSports

Baseball is a great game!!! There is nothing like being at the ballpark on a summer night or day during the season…

I remember my first live professional game… My dad and a friend of mines dad (Sam Gibbs Dad Johnny) took Sam and I on a charter bus when we were about ten years old to St Louis… That was the first of many games and many charter bus trips and each of those trips has a good story behind it…. As I remember it was the middle of summer and St Louis was playing the Pirates… We showed up to board the bus early in the morning in Evansville at Colonial Bread where Johnny worked… I remember the bus had three essential items, potato chips, beer and a custom built dice table that fit perfectly over the back four pairs of seats in the bus (I believe they had done this before)…

Sam and I made a mint that day running beers from the front to the back of the bus while the men shot dice, drank and smoked… I really do not remember allot about the game… I do remember we had good seats and when a Cardinal Player hit a home run how the scoreboard went nuts… This would be my first of many trips to what is now known as Old Busch Stadium…

If I cannot be at the stadium then my preference is to listen to games on the radio… I grew up listening to St Louis games and Evansville Triplett games on my old transistor radio… The play-by-play voice for the Triplets, Jim Celenia, even used to do a live broadcast recreation of the Triplett away games (now a lost art)… With the Cards you had the legendary Jack Buck and before Jack, Harry Carey…

In the Navy I really learned to appreciate the radio call of a baseball game even more... On Armed Forces radio broadcast we used to get allot of Dodger Games with Vin Scully (Vin would do the games by himself most of the time) and Brent Musburger doing games for CBS Radio… Brent did an excellent job on baseball … After my discharge from the Navy I moved back to my hometown of Henderson where part of my regular summer routine was to listen to the Cardinal games on the radio… To me Baseball Radio Announcers have the ability to paint a great picture of the game and no matter what the score always seem to make the games interesting… TV to me slows the game down and that is why allot of people do not like to watch baseball!!!

With Satellite Radio and the Internet a person can now listen to any baseball game for any team… I have not taken the plunge yet on Satellite Radio so when I am in my car now I listen to Reds games with Marty Brennamen or Louisville Bats games with Jim Couch… Brennamen and Couch both do a nice job calling the games…

For me baseball is truly a radio game and radio is part of the history and tradition of the game…

Masters

The course changes certainly got allot of press before the tournament started… I agree that the changes at Augusta are really taking allot of people out of contention before the tournament tees off… To me they were necessary because of the new talent coming onto the tour as well as the improvement to equipment and balls…

The breakthroughs in technology for both clubs and balls are changing Golf to a power game… My game is a prime example of what technology can do… I have worked hard for the last twelve years with allot of hours at the range and that accounts for 60% of my improvement… I believe the other 40% can be attributed to clubs and balls…

What can you say about two drivers Phil??? His play was stellar!!! He stayed away from trouble, got a few lucky bounces (when he hit the stake on 10) and was fortunate that Freddie could not make a putt and that Tim Clark played the last six holes of the third round five over par… If Clark shoots even during the stretch then he very well could have run away with the tournament… What was short hitting Tim Clark doing up at the top anyway???

Tiger could not make the putts when he needed them… He had really solid eagle opportunities on 13 and 15 and he missed a couple of others on the front that made a big difference… Tiger hit another great shot on 16 almost throwing in an ace… Ernie, Vijay and host of others faded away down the stretch… I really thought the tournament was headed for one of the greatest back nine shootouts in Master’s history but it was really anticlimactic in the end…

Freddie’s ball striking on Sunday was fantastic!!! Most golfers will tell you though that solid ball striking does not always lead to great scoring no matter what level you are with you game… The best score I ever posted was not about ball striking but putting… I shot a 71, hit the ball OK but only had 24 putts... I recently had a great ball striking round in Florida where I hit 12 fairways and 14 greens but could not get the ball in the hole… You could really see it in Freddie’s face on #18 that he knew that was probably his last shot to win their again…

If there is one Fraternity I would like to be a member of it for sure would be Master Champion… What an exclusive group with privileges second to none… Do you think Greg Norman just cringes when he thinks about this??? I bet he spends Masters Week on his boat in the middle of the water with a fishing pole in one hand and drink in the other… If there was ever a guy who should have a green jacket it is Greg!!!

Who is your Caddy

by ShagOnSports

One of the things I always pay close attention to is who is carrying the bag for players at a PGA tournament… I always wonder what the story is behind the guy or girl on the bag… If I had a do over in life opportunity I believe that after I was discharged from the Navy I would have gone to one of the major courses in the US (in the south somewhere) and “Looped” for a couple of years...

Luke Donald, who won the Honda Classic last Sunday has his brother on the bag and his brother, has always been the guy… Davis Love also had his brother on the bag for a few years… Steve Stricker used to have his wife… Tiger has Stevie Williams (what a great gig) and you know that Stevie works hard and must be excellent at his trade in order to stay on the bag… When you think of Nick Faldo you think of Fannie and when I think of players like Norman, Nickalus, Mickleson, and Watson I always picture them with their same guys on the loop…

So who would you choose to be your caddy??? Would you put a family member on the loop??? A close friend??? Maybe a not so close friend but someone you know and have allot of respect for??? A professional caddie, like Fluff??? That would be a tough one for me to answer… So who is your Caddie???

Honda Classic

This was the last year for the Honda to be at Mirasol… There is allot of controversy surrounding the move to the PGA Course across the street… Mirasol was built for this tournament… The course has some fantastic places to watch the tournament and in my opinion it has been a first class operation in the four years I have attended the tournament… The players do not care for the course due to the wind and the level of difficulty (many players do not like the difficult greens) but in my opinion they never gave the course a chance… This was only the third year on this course (the first year at Mirasol was on the first of the two courses they have their)… Several of the players commented that the course was as difficult as a US Open course comparing the set up to Shinnecock or Pinehurst… PGA players do not like to have to grind it out for four days...

The tournament has also failed to attract allot of the top players (only one in the top 20) and this may also be due to the timing of the tournament (the week after Doral)… Next year the tournament will be played as the first on the Florida swing for the PGA… The charity that Jack Nickalus and his wife started this year honoring the memory of their grandson will be the new benefactor of the tournament proceeds (All PGA events the proceeds go to charities)… Jack is going to add 400 yards to the layout so it compares to today’s PGA courses… How much influence Jack had on this move can only be speculated but Jack is Jack and that is all I am going to say about that…

During Sunday’s round we parked by hole number three green and ventured onto the course… Number three is a difficult Par 3 that plays into the wind… We watched John Cook and Briny Baird both make pars from difficult spots on the green and then went back to the tee box to watch Bernhard Langer play his shot to the green and he missed it left yelling, in English, “Cut, Cut”!!!! We then rambled through the next two holes watching Paul Azinger, Mark Calcavecchia, Marco (Bar Fight) Dawson and Padrig Harrington until we made our way the practice area…

I really like to watch the players practice and the techniques they use… All of the players go to the range first, start with ¾ wedge shots and then make their way to the driver… In watching Luke Donald warm up yesterday he started out with a wedge that had a weighted sleeve, which was the first time I had seen this used… Johnny Miller came over and took a look at the device so it must be something new… After hitting balls most players then go to the chipping green and work on pitch shots and bunker shots and then move to the putting green… There seems to be no real drill that is common for players on the putting green other then most work on the eight to ten foot putts…

My buddies like to set on number 18 but my golf watching technique is a little different… I like to start down number eighteen and walk the course backwards (not many people do this) stopping at each hole to watch a couple of groups hit from the fairways or around the greens (It is to difficult to see the tee shots from the tee so I avoid them)… I usually walk until I get to a point where I watch the last four groups come through one hole and then I make my back to eighteen…

The back nine at Mirasol looks tough to me… There are allot of waste areas and severe penalties for missing the fairways and the greens... Along my walk on Sunday I saw allot of bogeys from missed greens, bad lies, missed putts and missed fairways… As I made my way down the ropes on hole number 14 I noticed all of the people in front of me start covering their heads… I had my MP3 player going but I did not need sound to know what was going on… The players tee shot sailed into the thick area that the members play as environmental areas… After searching for the players ball it was found and he had to take a drop into the waste area (the waster area looks like a bunker on TV but it is not)…

After Jon Mills took his drop he then told the Marshall to move everyone towards the fairway… At this point I thought what is this guy doing and removed my head phones… I know these guys are good but the path he had chosen was going to require a shot that would get up quick, start out straight and then start to fade into what looked like about a two foot gap in between to trees… I know these guys are good but no way he is going to do pull this off… He pierces the shot right through almost effortlessly…

As I made my way through I stopped on number 10 to watch the last four groups come thorough… I got a spot right behind the green where the pin was about fifteen feet from where I stood (prime spot to maybe get a little TV time also)…

Number 10 is a fairly short one but the pin placement was a tough one… You could tell on the approach shots that each of the players was trying to land their ball on a ridge about ten feet from the hole and let the ball trickle down to the hole… I saw a couple of players three putt (Chopra had to make a four footer or he would have four putted) and only one birdie in four groups…

Luke Donald hit a great approach shot into this hole that landed right by the pin took a hard bounce forward and landed about four feet from my right foot… His lie was not a bad one but he did have a clump of grass behind the ball with no green to work with at all… My angle was perfect so if you saw the chip then you saw me standing right behind him…

This is where tour players make their money… With ever so soft hand Luke chipped the ball up landed it perfect and it almost goes in but rolls about three feet past… He then misses the putt (which is something I would do) but goes on to birdie the next two holes (which is something I would not do)…

When I finally made it back to eighteen my entourage told me they had not seen many birdies (the hole played the toughest on Sunday) and that Mark O’ Meara had flown one into the grandstand behind the green against the glass and I asked whether or not he called bank…

Luke Donald won the tournament with some clutch play on the back nine… His approach shot to eighteen was one of the better ones of the day and he made birdie to finish…

I predict that Mirasol could be the site of US Open in the near future… With longer rough and a few tees moved back this course could even be more of a monster…

Two days of golfing with lots of putting

My first day in Florida we played Hammock Creek… It is a Jack Nickalus design that is fair and right in front of you… I shot 85 in the wind (40, 45) and beat my buddy Coop one up… I hit the ball well from the tee and stayed away from big numbers… I beat my buddy Rudy front, back and total (he will never learn) and then on our three man best ball teams we shot 80 and they shot 81…

On Saturday we went to my favorite Florida course, Abocoa, and the greens beat me up… They told us that day that the greens were as fast as Mirasol and I believe this to be true… My ball striking was fantastic off the tee and into the green (12 of 14 fairways and 13 of 18 greens) but my putter (God rests it soul) let me down… I got so spooked after three putting from about ten feet on the third hole that I went on to record 20 putts on the front nine and 24 putts (not a misprint) on the back… On the back I went three putt, three putt, four putt and four putt to start the nine… I was not the only one to have this type of day… It was comical watching putts get to the hole and then roll back five feet… If you got above the hole you were dead… I had three footer above the hole that missed and went by ten feet and all I did was just touch the ball… Putting is about confidence and I have had any confidence the last two years…

On Saturday Coop beat me two and one with a smooth 38 on the back at Abacoa… I shot 88!!! I usually average 30 putts a round so you can do the math… Rudy played better but I still took his money… Next year I will give Rudy five a side since he did hook us up with free rooms on the concierge floor at the Marriott with the 800 thread count sheets…

After the round we hung out on the deck at Abacoa for cocktails while there was a wedding reception going on inside the clubhouse and outside on the deck… In twenty years the attendees of this reception will be telling stories about the golfers that would just not leave no matter how hard they tried to push us out the door…

ShagOnSports Random Comments

- I like to watch the PGA players play difficult courses that make them be creative… You could say I like to watch them struggle…

- It is a golf tournament and not the Kentucky Derby!!! I still cannot understand why some women come to a PGA Tour event dressed in high heels and some men come dressed like they are going to get to jump out there and play… You should dress like you are going to the infield at the Derby!!!

- Freddie, Freddie, Freddie!!! He is the easiest player to spot from a distance on the course due to his mannerisms… His arm extension back loosening motion is unmistakable…

- The call that USA got vs. Japan last week in the WBC was some serious home cooking… The replay clearly shows the player did not leave the bag to soon…

- I am enjoying watching the WBC… I think it is good for baseball… Go Dominica!!!

- Who gets the Temple Job??? Indiana hires Steve Alford and Iowa hires John Pelphrey or Darrin Horn??? Ole Miss hires Cincinnati’s coach, Cincy hires???… Temple will go in new direction maybe Mike Davis or Bob Huggins if they really want something different…

- I believe the PGA Tour hires a guy each year to stand on the eighteenth green and yell at each player like they know him personally… These people crack me up and have little idea how big of a fool they are making themselves look… Instant Idiot, just insert Alcohol…

- After the Honda tournament was over we went to eat and second place finisher Billy Mayfair came in and set beside us… We thought that since he just cashed $319,000 he might pick up the tab but we thought wrong… He was a very nice guy and took time to talk to us about this year and the move to the new course next year…
