Steroids, UK Football and Other Stufff

Roger Clemens

Is Roger the next Pete Rose!!! Did he take roids??? Did he take HGH??? If he did I think he was smart enough to keep his name away from any purchases...

Do I think he took them??? I do not know but if you look at his stats they were trending down until he went to Toronto and then they trended back up again... Could have been the result of how hard Roger was working out at the time which is what he claims... His physical shape changed from his last year in Boston to his first year in Toronto (kind of like MJ he got bigger and more defined)... None of this proves anything to me...

Baseball is in desperate need of new leadership... Bud Selig sat back and allowed all of this to happen and he should pay the ultimate price by losing his job... Baseball needs a new leader to come in and move baseball past this era and move them forward... I will be watching the congressional hearing very closely next month and I look for Clemens to plead the fifth since he has filed a lawsuit...

UK vs Louisville (Live Blog)

- Kentucky looks good just cannot score... Ramon with a three...

- My wife just said she likes Pitino's suit... I said "F" Rick Pitino...

- Jasper, Jasper, Jasper... For three...

- Billy Packer just said that last year's key to the game was some late game substitutions that Coach Eddie Sutton made late in the game... Huh???

- So far during breaks that have played songs by The Killers and Louis XIV and some songs I recognize but am not sure who they are... Who ever is in charge of the music listens to what I listen too...

- Jasper is the key to this teams performance the rest of the year...

- Crawford, Bradley, Japer, Meeks and Patterson... That is the key...

- College needs the line like the NBA has inside on charges, That was not a charge on Crawford...

- Smooth is a different player when he is not the primary ball handler... Of course he just turned it over on a palming call that Packer says was not...

- What a great play by Meeks and Bradley on the steal by Meeks...

- Joe C gets a rebound off his ass...

- Nice first half by The Cats...

- How long will it be before Jasper is in... 28 seconds for Ramon to exit...

- 60 seconds for Jasper...

- Horrible play by Bradley!!!

- Ricky P wins so far in the half for coaching adjusments....

- If U of L continues to make jump shots UK is in trouble... UK cannot buy a basket...

- 43 to 35 next five mintues decides game...

- UK down eleven...

- Down thirteen...

- Meeks just made a bad play on a break...

- What does this team have in their gut??? We will find out...

- So far nothing...

- Crushed!!!

- That was not an intentional foul!!! Hard foul, yes!!!

- I will take Bradley in a fight with T Will all day long...

- Bradley showed he has allot of class at the end of the play before T Will bumped his big head in there...

- Only player on the floor from Kentucky so far is Preston Knowles... Where has all of the talent in Kentucky gone...

- This will make Billy G 1 and 1 vs U of L at Rupp...

- If Charecter cannot play at this level how is he going to play at the next???

- Bily Packer just talked about Travis Ford and him being a deciple of Ricky P... You also need to throw in Norm Stewart who Travis played for one year at Missouri...

- After being down 20 they are now down 14...

- Packer just mention that UK turned it over seven times on it's first ten possessions of the second half...

- Down 13 with 3:29 to play...

- Rick is no doubt in the Hair Club for Men...

- Billy Packer just said he does not know many players who can take it the Hole like Joe... I agree except Joe won't take it to the hole, hence his shag given nickname, "Go to the Hole Joe"...

- I hate to lose...

- Packer just said Bradley shot a four...

- Twenty turnovers, ouch... Wife just said that is bad as five fumbles...

- Nice gut check by UK but too little too late... I hate to lose!!!

- Billy Packer just said that Dean Smith refused to play his former assistance proving my theory that Dean Smith is a sissy, wussy, etc...

- I hate to lose

I am no longer believing the gossip out of Lexington about Billy G... If he was up to the fun and games he is rumored to be pictures would be all over the Blogs and the Internet... I think allot of this is wishful thinking on some peoples parts and just plain craziness on others...

UK is in for a long season I think... The next month with the schedule is going to make it really tough and I do not look for allot of wins for this team at the end of the year... Is it Billy G??? The Players??? Both??? Who knows but smarter people then me will figure it out and report back... The pundits will make it interesting for sure...

UK vs Vandy

If you look at turnovers alone you would think that UK lost to Vandy but when you look at the rebounds you see why they overcame 22 turnovers (42 to 21)... A bunch of those rebounds were offensive rebounds...

I thought that UK played it's best defensive game of the year... Vandy is a very disciplined team, plays great defense and they play very hard... Their schedule was a weak one to this point but Vandy will do some damage in the tournament and is not a team that anyone will want to play in March with their style of play... They will get better battling through the SEC...

There were several great exchanges by UK on offense yesterday... The two threes by Jasper were the results of great ball rotation and there were several great feeds to Patterson during the game...

Bradley will get allot of criticism for sure with his selfish play the last part of regulation but I am glad to see someone step up and have the confidence to take the game in his hands... With Jasper out the offense stalled and Bradley did exactly what Billy G wanted him to do... UK does not win without Smooth on the floor...

Kentucky is thin right now with Meeks out and now it looks like Jasper may be out again... Smooth and Patterson played all 50 minutes against Vandy and that is amazing especially with as hard as they play all the time...

Would love to see what this team could do if everyone was healthy!!! Beat us while you can because this is not going to last...

UK and Florida State, Music City Bowl

Of course the talk before the game was centered around how many players that FSU had suspended... FSU who has a top twenty-five recruiting class every year!!! My spin was sure this will have an impact on depth but FSU was still as talented as Kentucky on paper and the advantage that Kentucky had was at the skill positions which was not impacted by suspensions... Bottom line is Kentucky was playing Florida State not Louisville or Kentucky for that matter who would be extremely impacted by 25 players being suspended (Yes it was 25 not 36 as reported since 11 were walk ons who never travel)...

After we arrived Mara, Matt and I along with my Buddie CT and his family went downtown for dinner and to see the battle of the bands... We decided to eat at the Hard Rock since they are pretty kid friendly and hey, it is the Hard Rock (I like the place)... It is worth mentioning that the last time I was in this Hard Rock about ten years ago I walked in the door at 10:30 AM and walked out at 11:00 PM so a repeat of that performance was not expected or desired...

We walked in got seated, our waiter came to the table, talked about he was glad to see Kentucky represented and then told us he was from Henderson... Turns out he is my Mom's boss, Sandy Watkins, son... What are the odds??? The Henderson Mafia is everywhere!!!

The Hard Rock was nice and they played some really good music... My nephew Matthew really likes music as does CT's daughters, Rachel and Jessie... They played, The Killers, The Hives, Pearl Jam, REM, The Clash, Jimi, Zepplin and many others...

After Dinner we went and watched and listened to the battle of the bands between FSU and UK... Matt asked me what they were going to do and I told him that they were going to square off like the move Gangs of New York and fight to the death... That is at least the Battle of the Bands I wanted to see...

The Battle of the Bands was a nice way to get the bowl festivities started... Both teams played their fight songs and each band played their state songs (the only two states who songs were written by the same person, Stephen Foster)... UK won but it was based on the large crowd more then anyone... I am sure the judges did not want to get "lynched" when the contest was over...

The tailgating crowd was as expected pro Kentucky... Titans stadium is a pretty good spot for tailgaiting but the bathroom situation was unreal (one hour waits for the port a pots)... There were spots of Florida State fans around but it was like being at a Kentucky home game...

Our seats were fantastic for the game... We were 19 rows off the field, right by the FSU band... Very similar seats to what we have at Commonwealth Stadium... The greatest thing about sitting by the FSU band was when they played the Ohhhh, Ohhhh, Ohhhh, Ohhhhhh (the tomahawk chop song) the UK fans sang in unison, "Go to Study Hall, Study Hall, Study Hall"...

We were in the end zone where most of the action was in the first half... The muffed punt by FSU, UK's first score by Tamme, Littles first fumble, UK's hold on four downs (that was sweet) and then the poorly thrown ball by Woodson that turned into a TD for FSU (Elation to Dejection)...

I thought that the UK defense played a good game... They held Weathorford to 22 of 48 but made him look like WVA's Pat White on a few of his running plays... The running back Smith for FSU was the fastest player I have seen all year and finished with 156 yards rushing (Kentucky's David Jones, who claims to be fastest player on the UK team ran him down from behind in the fourth quarter and the FSU back has run a 4.2 forty)... Wesley Woodyard is the man!!! His play on defense all year was great but he stepped up big in this game... The announcers during the game could not stop talking about Woodyard when I watched the replay... Cornerback Paul Warford also played his best game of the year...

Woodson had a fantastic closing game... 32 of 50 with 4 TD's, 358 total yards... Little had 156 yards rushing, 50 receiving yards, 10 return yards but two fumbles knocked him out of the MVP race... Andre made some great reads and did a great job of checking off at the line and he executed the no huddle offense as well as he had done all year (nice call on that one Joker)...

It was really nice for this program to get a second bowl win even if it was not the bowl game that I wanted after this team started 6 and 1... The schedule this year was tough but UK did get an extra home game in 2007 which in the end was really no benefit since they lost to MSU at home...

Three in a row??? It will be interesting next year and that is all I ask for!!! Look out for the defense as I think they will be solid... Lots of ??????? marks on offense next year at every skill position...

Brooks meter is at 7!!!

Random Thoughts

- Nice to see the SEC get another championship in football... With a twelve game season and a conference championship game the SEC is somewhat at a disadvantage... I still want a playoff of at least four teams after the bowl games are over at a mimimum... This could all be done before the kids go back to school for spring classes...

- Hats off to my Buddie CT... He went to 12 of the 13 games and finished it off with having his picture on the front page of the Lexington paper as well making several appearances on ESPN during the game (they got a great shot of him and his family after the first touchdown)...

- The color commentator for the game talked allot about te UK fan base... UK has always had a great fan base who have supported football forever... I am included in that mix for sure since I am card carrying fan since I could remember... An FSU fan had a sign that read, "Kentucky Football - A tradition since this year... That is just not true!!! Win or lose the fans turnout and in no way are fair weather... There is a rich SEC tradition at this school despite what some people think or like to believe!!!

- I cannot understand why the coaches did not explain to the UK defense on the next to last series if they intercept a pass just fall down because the game would be over... I watched two other bowl games where this occurred and the defensive players went straight to the ground which to me is a sign of good coaching... I also do not understand why Brooks took points off the board in the first half... That is a veteran coach who I expect to make better decisions then that one... Almost proved to be a costly mistake...

- The FSU QB threw 273 passes in a row before throwing two against UK... Makes me really appreciate what Andre did with 325 in a row...

- Bobby Bowden's statement at halftime about his player who flipped in the end zone, "Why is that a penalty", shows how out of touch he has become and his teams have no discipline... That should be an automatic ejection from the game... Hope Brooks does not stay around as long as Bowden has... I am still hoping Brooks gets the Atlanta job... Don't rule him out...

- I was in great position heading into the WVU vs Oklahoma game in my College Football Bowl Pick'em... With only a few games left I had the highest amount of confidence points on Oklahoma and Va Tech... Those two losses along with Michigan beating Florida (I wonder what the bowl record is of the Heisman Trophy winner) knocked me out of any chance to win but I have stayed in the top five percent of all the pick sets I have entered (21 of 28 so far, no spread just straight picks)... I ended up finishing 177 in the Fans of SEC, 57 in Fans of Kentucky and 17 in Fans of Navy...

- I think that the situation with golf analyst Kelly Tilghman has been blown up for no reason... Al Sharpton is comparing her to IMUS... I think that Al Sharpton is more like Imus... If Tiger Woods says he has no issue with what Kelly said then why does anyone else... She made a mistake... Her record is flawless and if you take the entire text of the conversation that lead to her "they should take him to a back alley and lynch him" statement would know that she did not mean that in a racial way at all end of story... Were you offended at all or thought anything at all when I used the word "lynching" earlier...

- I am not a fan of St Louis trading Scott Rolen for Troy Glaus... They are the same player on offense but defensively Rolen is steps above... Rolen is a shell of what he once was due to injuries but he still has a great glove...

Music

The new Eddie Vedder CD is really great... We cannot stop listening to Kings of Leon either, they have a unique and different sound that really rocks for me..
